Aquablast Surface Preparation

Aquablast Surface Preparation removes rust, scale and chemical contamination from almost any surface to any required standard.

Aquablast operates a fleet of the most powerful Ultra High Pressure (UHP) water jetting equipment in the UK.

Waterjets at an astonishing 55,000 psi (3,800 bar/ 380 MPa) – with a velocity approaching twice the speed of sound – have immense cutting and cleaning power with little reaction forces for the operator because of the very low flow rates.

This unique combination of colossal power and low reaction force allows safe use of hand-held tools to carry out a broad range of material separation and cleaning tasks.

Waterjets at this pressure and velocity will still not damage steel but virtually all coatings, corrosion or contamination can be removed from ferrous and non-ferrous metals with relative ease. The cleaning power is so high that even materials contaminated with low levels of radio-activity can be purged to a point where the steel can be safely handled without special precautions.

Aquablast ‘Octopus’

Aquablast’s ‘Octopus’ robotic magnetic crawler coupled to a low flow Jet Edge 3,800 bar pumpset achieves impressive surface preparation on ships’ vertical sides or even inverted underwater.  An optional vacuum attachment can remove all arisings, including the low volumes of water used, keeping the drydock much cleaner or minimising any discharges at a mooring.  ‘Octopus’ cuts a 300mm path and preparation standard WJ2 or WJ1 if desired can be produced at performance rates as high as 40m2/hour.

Routine tasks for hand-held UHP Aquablasting include:

  • Removal of epoxy coatings from steel;
  • Removal of rust and scale back to white metal without any use of abrasives;
  • Reduction of chemical contamination on metals (e.g. chlorides) to negligible levels;
  • Removal of ceramic mould materials from the most inaccessible parts of castings;
  • Deburring of castings such as engine blocks and complex machinings;
  • Removal of failed molybdenum liners in engine cylinders;
  • Treatment of turbine components to fully remove very hard carbon deposits;
  • Separation of moulded plastics from steel;
  • Removal of cement/concrete contamination from metals;
  • Selective removal of multiple coatings;
  • Scabbling of floated concrete surfaces to remove laittance;
  • Hydro-demolition to remove failed concrete without cracking sound adjacent material;
  • Concrete “dentistry” to inspect integrity of rebar;
  • Heat Exchanger tube cleaning
  • Classic Car Restoration
  • Restoration of old agricultural machinery
  • Restoration of vintage rail locomotive and roiling stock
